HARRISON, New Jersey – Despite FC Cincinnati being shut out three matches in a row, it has two points to show for its efforts in that span.
Saturday's scoreless draw with D.C. United was followed up with a tie by the same scoreline against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday.
The shutout was FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer's fourth of 2021. He was forced into three saves and saw the ball clank off the underside of his crossbar in the first half.
The shot off the crossbar in the early stages of the match was a close as New York would come to scoring.
Cincinnati's defense buckled at times in the first half but still managed to defend the 19 shots the Red Bulls fired off.
As a result of the tie, FC Cincinnati moved its record to 3-7-6 and sits in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.
Vermeer's opposite number, Carlos Coronel, made two saves to preserve his side of the shutout.
The match also featured former FC Cincinnati players Andrew Gutman in the starting lineup, as well as former No. 1 overall MLS SuperDraft pick Frankie Amaya as a second half substitute.
The Enquirer will update this report.
