With all the build-up surrounding the main event of UFC 264 between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor, fans knew they were in for a shocking ending to the lightweight trilogy.
Just as the first round was dwindling, McGregor attempted a kick and his leg planted on the ground awkwardly, resulting in him falling to the ground. Poirier threw some punches but McGregor seemed to have escaped the first round, and that's when the chaos ensued.
The fight was ended due to a doctor's stoppage, as replay showed McGregor had broken a bone in his leg. Even though the favorite, Poirier, emerged victorious, fans still couldn't believe the way the trilogy fight ended.
Internet star Logan Paul, who was in attendance at the fight, said the loss meant the end of McGregor's career.
McGregor rival Khabib Nurmagomedov also weighed in on the bout.
Twitter users took notice on the amount of trash talk McGregor did before the fight, notably how he said he was going to put Poirier on a stretcher. Yet, it was McGregor who left the octagon via stretcher.
McGregor said at the end of the fight that his rivalry with Poirier isn't over, and that had some people thinking the fighting will continue, injury or not.
