Longtime Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Norbert Nadel has died. We talked with Judge Theodore Berry who confirms that he had spoken with someone close to the family who confirmed Nadel's death.We had also reached out to Prosecutor Joe Deters who confirms that he had heard of Nadel's death.The Hamilton County GOP tweeted out about the passing of the judge.Nadel retired from the bench on Dec. 31, 2014.He served as a judge in the Hamilton County court for 40 years.When WLWT News 5 investigative reporter Todd Dykes asked Nadel how he'd like people to remember his 40-year stint as a Hamilton County judge, Nadel said, "I hope they would say, 'Not afraid to do the right thing.'"Nadel made history in 1984 by handing down a long sentence in Ohio for a DUI-related death case which fueled the group Mothers Against Drunk Driving to lobby for stronger laws. He sentenced the defendant to 13 to 25 years in prison. A big case that Nadel covered was in 1989 when he ruled in favor of Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose amid a swirl of gambling allegations.
