The couple found dead in their home in West Chester Township Tuesday night died as the result of "an apparent murder-suicide," township spokesperson Barb Wilson said this afternoon.
Wilson released an incident report at the same time that identifies the dead as 73-year-old John Wallace and his 72-year-old wife, Assunta Wallace.
Both of the Wallaces are listed as victims in the report, which says a handgun was recovered in the home.
Wilson said West Chester Township police continue to investigate.
"We will wait for reports of cause of death from the coroner's office; and have nothing further to report on the investigation at this time," she said in an email to The Enquirer.
Earlier today, Wilson said police were investigating the deaths of a couple found dead in their home in the 8800 block of Revere Run by relatives about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
A 911 call released by the township shows one of the Wallaces' three sons called police Tuesday to report his parents were dead.
He said he went to their home to check on them after a neighbor noticed the couple's trash cans were still out and contacted him.
The son said he found his dad, who he said was receiving chemotherapy treatments for cancer, on the bed, looking like he was sleeping. He told the dispatcher his mother was on the floor and she and her pillow were covered in blood.
The son said he found a typed note at the scene. He told the dispatcher he did not see any weapons, but that his parents do own one. He did not specify what type of weapon they own.
The son said he saw his dad Monday night on his parents’ deck. He said they were grilling out and everything seemed fine.
