Suspect arrested in connection to officer-involved shooting Sunday

A man was arrested Friday after allegedly pointing a gun at a Boone County Sheriff's deputy and fleeing arrest earlier this week.

Jacob C. Roberts, 24, was arrested by the Cincinnati Police Department after he was discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office. Roberts is currently held at the Hamilton County Justice Center and is expected to be extradited to Kentucky soon.

Early Sunday morning, Boone County Sheriff's deputies responded to a drug complaint in Walton, KY. When deputies arrived at the vehicle in question, they asked a male occupant to exit the vehicle. The male suspect exited and pointed a handgun at a deputies' face, but the deputy was able to push the weapon away.

The man then pointed the handgun at another deputy before fleeing the scene. No shots were fired during the incident.

The same man was later injured at the Newport Plaza shopping center Sunday after firing his weapon at Kenton County police officers who attempted to conduct a traffic stop on his vehicle. At least two officers fired back, striking the man.

The suspect was treated on the scene by Campbell County Emergency Medical Services and taken to the University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
