Two people were taken to the hospital tonight – where one later died - after a car lost control on Reading Road in Mount Auburn, split a telephone pole, struck a pedestrian and slammed into a building.
That’s according to a news release from the Cincinnati Fire Department, which said units were dispatched to the 2400 block of Reading Road at about 8:20 p.m. on a report of a vehicle crash with a pedestrian struck and pinned under the vehicle.
The fire department subsequently learned that a four-door sedan had lost control while traveling south on Reading Road at, according to witnesses, a high rate of speed, the release said.
The sedan then struck the telephone pole and the pedestrian, continuing south on Reading Road.
“The victim was thrown a significant distance due to the impact,” the release said.
“The vehicle then collided with the building located at 2499 Reading Road and came to a stop facing northbound with heavy damage.”
The release said bystanders were attempting CPR on the pedestrian when the fire department arrived, and three passengers had already gotten themselves out of the damaged sedan.
The fire department took the pedestrian to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the release said. Enquirer partner Fox19 reported that the pedestrian died there.
One passenger in the sedan fled the scene
The fire department also took one of the sedan’s passengers to the hospital after stabilizing the passenger at the scene.
A second passenger from the sedan refused treatment after being medically assessed and Cincinnati police took the person into custody, the release said.
The third passenger fled the scene without being medically evaluated.
Representatives from Duke Energy and the Cincinnati building department were dispatched to the scene.
“Once all civilians involved were evaluated, treated and/or transported, the scene of the accident was then turned over to the Cincinnati police,” the release said.
