Xavier University has rounded out and completed its men's basketball coaching staff as of Friday evening.
Head coach Travis Steele announced that he has hired Jordan Brooks as the program's director of recruiting.
Brooks will be Xavier's first-ever director of recruiting, and he fills the spot on Steele's staff that was previously occupied by Matthew Graves under a different title, special assistant to the head coach.
Brooks comes to Xavier after two seasons as an assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana University. Prior to Southeastern, Brooks coached at Howard University (2017-19) as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Brooks, who was selected to the 2019 Under Armour NABC 30-Under-30 Coaches Team, is well-verses in the recruiting world.
“I am thrilled to add Jordan Brooks as director of recruiting to our men's basketball staff,” said Steele. “Jordan is one of the top up and coming basketball coaches in the country. He comes to Xavier with a wealth of experience at the collegiate level. He has been an assistant coach at two different Division I schools. Jordan has a terrific work ethic and knowledge of the game. In addition, he is also a very good communicator and has relationships all throughout the country.”
Brooks marks the third men's basketball staff change since the end of last season. Steele also hired Danny Peters as an assistant coach to replace Ben Johnson. Chase Campbell was hired as the Musketeers' new strength and conditioning coach for basketball.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to join the Xavier Family,” said Brooks. “This program has a lot of history and tradition and I’m happy to be a part of it. I’m ready to work with coach Steele and a great staff, joining a program with a great winning culture.”
While at Howard, Brooks recruited R.J. Cole, who went on to win MEAC Rookie of the Year and MEAC Player of the Year honors during his career. He also recruited and helped develop All-Conference players Chad Lott and Charles Williams.
Brooks helped Howard to a turnaround in his second season, as the Bison finished 17-16 overall and 10-6 in conference play. The Bison finished third in the conference and recorded the first winning regular season in four years. He has also helped the program receive its first post-season bid in over 20 years, making the College Basketball Invitational.
Upon the completion of that season; Brooks was recognized as one of the Nation's top young coaches. The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Brooks to its NABC 30-Under-30 Team.
Before Howard, Brooks coached and recruited at the 14U, 15U, and 16U grassroots levels while developing several NCAA Division I student-athletes from top programs around Washington, D.C., including DC Assault, Team Takeover, Team Durant, and Team St8ment. That’s an area that Brooks knows well since he is a native of the Washington, D.C., region.
Brooks played his collegiate career at Hampton (2007-2011), including the first three seasons under former Howard men's basketball head coach Kevin Nickelberry.
In 2011, he earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management at Hampton. A year later, Brooks completed an MBA at Goldey-Beacom College, specializing in marketing management.
Brooks attended Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale, Md., in the Washington, D.C., area, where he earned All-MET and All-PG County first-team honors.
