FAIRBORN - Cincinnati Country Day embraced the big moment.
Tied 4-4 going into extra innings under a scorching sun, the Nighthawks were ready to fire up their offense and win after tying McNick on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.
They had a chance to put the Rockets away in the eighth. The alternative: end the season and continue their 20-year drought without making a state appearance.

Instead, they brought in three runs, thanks to hits from Jackson Campbell, Parker Corbin and Tennessee commit Payton Ebbing. The Nighthawks finished with a 7-5 victory in the Division III regional semifinals Friday evening at Nischwitz Stadium.
CCD coach Asif Shah was pleased but not surprised by his team’s performance.
