A minor-league baseball team in Fredericksburg, Virginia, will wear jerseys featuring Harambe, the 17-year-old western lowland gorilla killed in May 2016 at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden by an emergency response team protecting a 3-year-old boy who fell into his exhibit.
FredNats players and coaches will be wearing jerseys Saturday (May 22) honoring Harambe as the team - according to its website - celebrates "what would have been the 22nd birthday of the famous gorilla who was killed before his time."
Proceeds from a silent auction of the autographed, game-worn jerseys will benefit the Dutch Gorilla Foundation, according to the team.
