Donald Trump calls Medina Spirit Kentucky Derby winner ‘junky’ after positive drug test

Former President Donald Trump called Kentucky Derby-winning horse Medina Spirit a "junky" after a positive drug test.

Medina Spirit tested positive for betamethasone, an anti-inflammatory drug, trainer Bob Baffert announced Sunday morning.

"So now even our Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit, is a junky. This is emblematic of what is happening to our Country. The whole world is laughing at us as we go to hell on our Borders, our fake Presidential Election, and everywhere else!" Trump said in a statement Sunday.

Trump's claims about the "fake" election have been repeatedly debunked.

John Velazquez, aboard Medina Spirit, won the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Baffert said a post-race test following Medina Spirit’s win in the May 1 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs revealed 21 picograms of betamethasone.

According to Kentucky Horse Racing Commission regulations, a second positive test — called a “split sample” — is required before a horse can be disqualified.
