Want to help heal Ohio's political polarization? This is a good month to try to fix the problem.
Braver Angels, a nonprofit that works to depolarize the nation's politics, is hosting a free, virtual, two-part workshop called "Red/Blue," in which 10 conservative-leaning citizens and 10 liberal-leaning citizens will gather to converse and learn to understand each other.
The group describes the May events as a forum "to discuss your views, without judgment, to learn answers to sincere questions in order to understand the other side’s viewpoint."
The polarization apparent in Ohio during the 2020 election doesn't have to be permanent. The USA Today Ohio Network is working with nonprofit Braver Angels to help heal our divides, and you can help.
The workshop covers two sessions, and Braver Angels requests that anyone who signs up commit to both.
• Session 1: May 15th from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
• Session 2: May 22nd from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Registering for Session 1 automatically includes you in Session 2 of the workshop.
There are two ways to join a Red/Blue Workshop, either as a participant or as an observer:
• Red or Blue participants engage in group discussions with individuals of both the same and different political persuasions. Participants will register and identify as “red” or “blue” leaning.
• Observers can also attend and will only watch and listen without participating in the discussions.
Trained Braver Angels Moderators lead the workshops via Zoom, ensuring ground rules are followed and everyone is treated respectfully.
You can register here or at braverangels.org.
