Cincinnati, Kentucky, Xavier interested in Iowa’s CJ Fredrick

Iowa transfer CJ Fredrick, a former Covington Catholic High School standout, is receiving interest from the Cincinnati Bearcats, Xavier Musketeers, Kentucky Wildcats and at least six other schools, according to a report Wednesday via Twitter from CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

Iowa Hawkeyes guard CJ Fredrick (5) leans back to get a shot past Illinois Fighting Illini guard Adam Miller (44) and forward Giorgi Bezhanishvili (15) on Saturday, March 13, 2021, during the men's Big Ten basketball tournament from Lucas Oil Stadium.

Fredrick, a guard who played for the Hawkeyes for the past two seasons, announced Monday that he will enter the NCAA transfer portal.

As a sophomore, Fredrick averaged 7.5 points in 24.7 minutes per game and shot 47.4 percent from 3-point range in 27 games this past season. A lower-leg injury limited his availability in February.

As a redshirt freshman for the Hawkeyes during the 2019-20 season, he averaged 10.2 points per game and shot 46.1 percent from 3-point range in 25 games.

Fredrick scored a career-best 23 in a loss last December at Minnesota. He scored 21 in the Hawkeyes' win against the Cincinnati Bearcats in Dec. 2019.

Fredrick's teammate at Iowa, Jack Nunge, announced earlier this month that he'll play for Xavier as a transfer.

Fredrick led CovCath to the 2018 KHSAA Sweet 16 state championship with a historic performance, and was a Mr. Basketball finalist.
