New York Yankees outfielder Jay Bruce, a first-round pick of the Reds in the 2005 MLB draft who played for Cincinnati from 2008 to 2016, announced Sunday morning his retirement from Major League Baseball.
Bruce has played for the New York Mets, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees since 2016. He signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees in February.

Social media reactions:
Bruce was a three-time All-Star during his nine seasons in Cincinnati, hitting .249 with 233 home runs.
The Reds traded Bruce to the Mets in Aug. 2016 for Max Wotell and Dilson Herrera.
During ESPN's broadcast of an August game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies, play-by-play commentator Jon Sciambi recounted a story about Bruce's admiration for Hall of Famer and former Moeller High School standout and Cincinnati Reds great Ken Griffey Jr.
