Cincinnati firefighter wrote book to inspire young Black girls

A local firefighter has written a children's book with an inspiring message for young Black girls.

Cincinnati Firefighter Mario Jackson has written a book he hopes will help young Black girls realize that they can do jobs that are traditionally male-dominated.

Mario Jackson, a Cincinnati firefighter, wanted to show his two daughters they can be anything they want when they grow up.

He said it's hard to believe that when you don't often see people who look like you represented in many career fields.  So he thought of a way to let young girls know that they can do jobs that are traditionally male-dominated.

"It's important to have positive representation. I wanted to create something for my daughters that gives them the encouragement that they can do whatever they want and not let anything stop them from accomplishing their dream," Jackson said.

He began working on the book in 2019 and completed it in the summer of 2020.
