Cincinnati Reds rookie infielder Jonathan India recorded his first Major League Baseball hit - a double to left field off of St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jack Flaherty in the bottom of the fourth inning of Thursday's Opening Day game at Great American Ball Park.
It was the second career plate appearance for the Reds' first-round pick (fifth overall) in the 2018 MLB Draft.
India added a single to left center in the sixth. The Reds went on to lost the game, 11-6.
Social media reactions:
The Enquirer's Charlie Goldsmith wrote earlier this week that India has a rare opportunity for the Reds - the team's first position player in the Opening Day lineup since Chris Sabo in 1988.
India was informed last week that he made the Reds' Opening Day roster and would make his debut to start the season at second base - the first Reds rookie to do so since Pete Rose in 1963.
