Carl Lawson is headed to the Big Apple and the Cincinnati Bengals are filling the void with Trey Hendrickson.
The former New Orleans Saints defensive end has agreed to terms to join the Bengals, a source told The Enquirer. Hendrickson's deal is worth four years and $60 million.
Hendrickson is a much-needed addition for a Bengals team that just lost their best pass rusher to the New York Jets. The Bengals ranked second to last in the AFC in pressures (193) and the club was last in the NFL in total sacks with 17 in 2020.
Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin and coach Zac Taylor both declared last week that the team needed to upgrade its pass rush, Hendrickson is a player who can provide that.
Hendrickson had a breakout year in what was his first season as a full-time starter last year. His 13.5 sacks were tied for second in the NFL and he also had 50 pressures last season. The Bengals had 17 sacks and 193 pressures as an entire team in 2020.
The 6-foot-4, 270-pound pass rusher is a prototypical defensive end in a 4-3 defense. He immediately becomes Cincinnati's best pass rusher and fills the void left by Lawson.
The fifth-year defensive end has tallied 65 tackles, 20 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, three pass deflections and three forces fumbles in 45 career games all in New Orleans.
