Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight ends coach Rick Christophel, a former Reading High School standout and Cincinnati Bearcats assistant coach, shared his thoughts Monday about Kansas City tight end and former UC star Travis Kelce in advance of the Bucs' Super Bowl LV meeting with the Chiefs.
"When he came out of University of Cincinnati, he could do everything," Christophel said of Kelce. "He could block. He could run. He could catch. And I think he's just raised his game to another level. And especially in the offense they're running. He's become more of a pass receiver. But he's got so many mismatches on the field. That's what happens. And you've got to do a great job - and I know (Bucs defensive coordinator) Todd (Bowles) will - of knowing where he is and what his favorite routes are. ... He's a heck of a football player, and he's well on his way to the Hall of Fame too."
Christophel and Kelce join Chiefs running backs coach Deland McCullough (Miami University) and Bucs defensive back Mike Edwards (Winton Woods HS) as coaches and players in this year's game with Greater Cincinnati connections.
