University of Houston Cougars guard Caleb Mills, the American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year, is transferring, the school announced Tuesday.
Mills averaged 13.2 points per game last season. In four games this season for No. 11 Houston (8-1), he averaged 9.8 points.
Mills said his decision will allow him to play closer to home. He attended Asheville Christian Academy in North Carolina.
The 2-6 University of Cincinnati Bearcats are scheduled to play at Houston on Sat., Jan. 23, and host the Cougars on Sun., Feb. 21.
In UC's 64-62 win last February at Fifth Third Arena, Mills scored seven points and made just three of his 19 attempts from the field. In the Cougars' 68-55 win at Hofheinz Pavilion in March, he scored 15 points on 6-of-17 from the field.
