A suspected drunk driver slammed into a New Richmond police cruiser Tuesday, leaving the driver with serious injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.The crash happened on 12 Mile Road and State Route 132 at around 6:25 p.m. Police said they received reports that a woman driving the vehicle was intoxicated, so Officer John Amole went to go look for that vehicle. They said the driver, Kimberly Powers, 54, of New Richmond, eventually crashed into the police cruiser.Powers was reportedly driving her 1998 Toyota Corolla eastbound on State Route 132 when she traveled left of center and hit Amole's police cruiser.Powers was taken to Anderson Mercy Hospital and was later taken by Air Care to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.Officer Amole was taken to Clermont Mercy Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.According to OSHP, impairment was a factor in the crash and Powers was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.Police shut down the area near the intersection for several hours to investigate.
