Suspect in bank robbery turned SWAT standoff shot dead


The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says one man is dead after a bank robbery led to a SWAT standoff in Reading on Monday. Police say it all started at approximately 1:30 p.m. when the Fifth Third Bank in Reading, Ohio, was robbed at gunpoint. Officers were able to identify the suspect as 34-year-old Michael Craddock. He was located at a residence in the 1200 block of Third Street in Reading.Officers from surrounding jurisdictions responded to the scene to contain the residence until the Hamilton County SWAT team arrived. Police say, while units were waiting for SWAT to respond to the scene, Craddock went out the back door of the residence and pointed a firearm at multiple officers who were stationed outside. According to police, an Amberley Village officer fired one round, which struck Craddock in the upper body. Police say Craddock then retreated back into the residence. According to police, Hamilton County SWAT entered the residence a short time later and found Michael Craddock dead from an apparent gunshot wound. He was 34 years old. The incident is being treated as an officer-involved shooting, and remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section and the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office.
