The road to the 2023 Women’s College World Series begins Friday with the NCAA regionals, and there will be plenty of local softball talent taking the field.
Area colleges Northern Kentucky and Miami University each have four local players on the roster, but there are players scattered throughout the country, including on some of the nation’s top teams.

The regionals take place May 19-21 with the winning teams advancing to the super regionals May 25-28.
The Women’s College World Series runs from June 1 through June 9, if necessary.
Here is a look at local players taking part in the NCAA softball tournament:
Alabama
The Ball State transfer has appeared in 44 games, starting 23, for the No. 5-national seed Crimson Tide. She’s batting .235 with two home runs, eight RBI and six stolen bases.
Harvard
The freshman has appeared in 40 games, starting 33, and is batting .304 and is third on the team with six doubles.
Miami University
Hitting .324 with 17 home runs and 34 RBI this season. A career .356 hitter with 52 home runs and 149 RBI in her four seasons.
Has appeared in 16 games this season and collected her first career hit.
The freshman has not appeared in any game this season.
Appeared in seven games as a freshman this season.
Middle Tennessee
Has appeared in 47 games with 46 starts. Hitting .234 with 17 RBI.
Northern Kentucky
Has started all 53 games she has appeared in this season. Hitting .228 with 21 RBI.
Has appeared in 37 games with 30 starts. Hitting .190 with six RBI.
Has appeared in 20 games with 11 starts. Hitting .192 with a homer and three RBI.
Has appeared in 49 games, starting 48, as a freshman. Hitting .257 with two homers and 21 RBI.
Notre Dame
Has played 39 games with 34 starts. Hitting .255 with two home runs and 15 RBI.
Stanford
Has started 53 games for the No. 9 seed Cardinal. She's hitting .268 with two home runs and 19 RBI. Young notched her 200th career hit this season.
