Cincinnati Children’s physician gets Nobility in Science award

A Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center doctor was recognized on Saturday with the Nobility in Science award for her critical research development and exceptional care for patients battling pancreatic diseases.

Dr. Maisam Abu-El-Haija received the award alongside one of her patients, Bella Pedraja, a 14-year-old competitive swimmer from Florida, who was given the Courage Award. Both awards are from the National Pancreatic Foundation. The organization had a gala in Cincinnati on April 15.

Bella underwent complex surgery for her chronic pancreatitis, a painful and debilitating condition, at the Pancreas Care Center at Cincinnati Children’s, one of the few centers in the United States dedicated to caring for children with pancreatic diseases.
