Mother charged in death of 2 children after West Chester apartment fire
A mother has been indicted on multiple counts of endangering children and involuntary manslaughter after a fire took place on Aster Park Drive in West Chester on September 17, 2022.According to the indictment filed by the Butler County Clerk of Courts, Ashley Janine Rhiles faces two counts of involuntary manslaughter and four counts of endangering children.According to officials, firefighters were dispatched to the Meadow Ridge apartment complex located at 5259 Aster Park Dr. around 12:17 p.m. on September 17, 2022.West Chester Fire Chief Rick Prinz said the fire was limited to just one apartment where the four children were found inside.Four-year-old Bryson Brooks and 2-year-old Alaiya Encarnacion both died after being treated at Cincinnati Children's, the coroner said.The other two children who survived are 6-years-old and 9-months-old. West Chester officials confirmed after the fire there was no adult in the apartment at the time of the fire.
