CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The city of Cincinnati addressed its latest coronavirus concerns Wednesday.
There are now a total of 297 COVID-19 cases in the city with 42 currently hospitalized. Ten deaths have been reported.
On Wednesday, Mayor John Cranley was joined by Freestore Foodbank CEO Kurt Reiber at his press conference. He talked about the rising demand for food banks because of COVID-19 and how Cincinnatians can help.
Normally, it spends about $100,000 a month on purchased food. During the past month and a half, it spent $3 million. The supplies are being stretched.
He mentioned virtual food drives happening to raise money like the Hunger Walk coming up on Memorial Day. Cranley went on to say that testing is key to reopening safely.
“As I’ve pointed out, as well as the governor and others, even if the president says you can go back to work and the governor says you can go back to work, it doesn’t mean customers are going to show up on your door if they don’t feel safe. And so, mass testing would make people feel safe,” Cranley said.
Cranley expects Ohio's reopening guidelines to come Friday. He says it's extremely unlikely Cincinnati would not follow them and that he has confidence in how Gov. Mike DeWine has handled things.
