With less than 10 days until Selection Sunday and less than two weeks until First Four games in Dayton and NCAA tournament first-round action nationwide, Bracketology forecasts are becoming a bit clearer and some of the predictions could become reality for some teams.
Among CBS' first-round projections of interest to local college basketball fans: No. 4 Xavier meeting former Kentucky and Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and No. 13 Iona in Orlando, and No. 7 UK facing No. 2 UCLA in Sacramento in a meeting between John Calipari and Mick Cronin.
USA TODAY's latest Bracketology projections have XU as a No. 5 seed facing the Auburn-Oklahoma State First Four winner before potentially taking on No. 4 seed Indiana in a rematch of the Hoosiers' two-point win at Cintas Center in November.
ESPN's Bracketology update projects No. 2 UCLA vs. No. 15 Youngstown State in a first-round matchup in Sacramento, with the winner facing No. 7 Maryland or No. 10 West Virginia in a possible meeting between former Cincinnati Bearcats head coaches Mick Cronin and Bob Huggins.
Thad Matta was XU's head coach when the Musketeers defeated Pitino and Louisville in the 2004 NCAA tourney.
Cronin's Bruins defeated Calipari's Wildcats in December.
