Burglary, theft, sexual imposition at UC residence hall

CINCINNATI — University of Cincinnati police are investigating multiple crimes at a residence hall on campus.

According to police, there were three burglary incidents, one theft and one reported sexual imposition Sunday night at Daniels Hall. Investigators said they believe all the incidents involved the same group of male juveniles.

Deora Bachnicki, who lives at Daniels Hall, said she and her roommates were not at their dorm this weekend.

"It was scary ... we got that (message) and we all kind of freaked out — especially because we pay to live here and it's kind of heartbreaking that our friends get harassed and we're scared to go home."

Students said this is not the first time something like this has happened.

"There have been a lot of burglaries. I've heard of it happening on some of the higher floors oddly enough," freshman Sophia Keiser said. "I live on the first floor so I was actually kind of surprised it didn't happen to me and my roommates."

Bachnicki said one of her friends was attacked earlier this year, but there were no video recordings because the cameras did not work. Police said they do have surveillance video for these incidents and they are reviewing videos to identify the suspects.

UC police also said they have stepped up direct patrols.

"Patrol officers are out and about the residence halls and they're sending out information to the students to make sure they're doing everything they need to do on their end," said Jennifer McMahon, police lieutenant of criminal investigations.

Police are urging students to always lock their doors — even if only leaving for a few minutes
