Former Cincinnati Bearcat and Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis has been named hitting coach for Israel ahead of this year's World Baseball Classic.Youkilis, nicknamed the Greek God of Walks, spent 10 years in the majors and nine with Boston and parts of one year each with the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees.Over his four-year career with the Bearcats, the Sycamore alum slashed .366/.499/.627 with 53 home runs and 203 RBI.In his post-playing days, Youkilis has served as a scout with the Chicago Cubs and served as a broadcaster for Red Sox games.This year marks Israel's second appearance in the WBC, having made their tournament debut in 2017, the last time the event was contested. Israel, who entered the event the lowest-ranked team in the WBSC at the start of the tournament, went 3-0 in group play but went 1-2 in the second round failing to advance to the four-team championship round, finishing sixth overall.Pitcher Josh Zeid was named to the All-WBC team for his efforts, joining American Marcus Stroman and Japan's Kodai Senga. Zeid went 1-0 with two saves and 10 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.Israel will compete in Pool D, with all games to be played in Miami.
