Former Cincinnati Police captain pleads guilty to federal bribery, theft charges

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Former Cincinnati Police captain Mike Savard pleaded guilty to federal theft and bribery charges.

Savard accepted $5,000 in cash in exchange for offering to retire one month so a sergeant could be promoted.

Savard was already under a separate investigation by Cincinnati Police and planned to resign. He told the sergeant that he'd do it a month early before the promotion list at the time expired.

Conversations between Savard and the sergeant were recorded.

Savard's attorney Christopher McDowell said his client pleaded guilty because he wanted to put the case behind him.

When he's sentenced Savard could get anywhere from probation to 18 months in prison.

No date has been set.
