Body of missing 4-year-old was wrapped in plastic inside suitcase, coroner says


A coroner's report has revealed more grisly details about how the body of a missing 4-year-old girl was found. Serenity McKinney's body was found back in February.In a report just received from the Bullitt County Coroner's Office, it says that her body was found decomposing, wrapped in plastic inside of a green suitcase. Read the full report here.While the report says that there was no definite deadly trauma found, it did indicate that McKinney suffered fractures to her right arm and femur.The report continued to say that her body was found "partially skeletonized," as well. Due to the decomposition, coroners said they could not determine an official cause of death, but did determine it was a homicide.Her mother, Catherine McKinney, and Dakota Hill, the mother's boyfriend, are being charged by the Kentucky Attorney General's office with murder and corpse abuse. Serenity was reported missing on Feb. 3, 2022, but was last seen alive by her grandmother in December 2020 around Christmastime. McKinney's body was found more than two weeks later, on Feb. 18, in a wooded area near the Jefferson County-Bullitt County line. Coroners didn't identify her until August.The mother and boyfriend were found in Kansas and then were extradited back to Kentucky.They will both appear in court in January.
