CINCINNATI (WKRC) - For The Hunter family, expanding horizons for teenagers is a priority.
“We want everyone to see our children in a different light,” said Dwayne Hunter, a freshman football coach at Princeton High School.
Hunter’s uncle, Dorron, is a community outreach advocate. The two are teaming up to take 50 teenagers to Ohio State Saturday. Dwayne's entire freshmen team is going.
“They been talking about it all week, buzzing after our games. It's really great,” said Dwayne.
But it's about more than football. The Hunters are hoping to show the teenagers what life is like beyond the Interstate 275 loop.
“Some of them have never been out of the city. Some of them have never been on a college campus. Some of them have never been on a charter bus," said Dorron. “We've had a lot of recent young men getting gunned down and we're tired of looking at that so I want to take them and show them and let them see that there is another way through education, through relationships."
The Hunters say parents and leaders must come together to stop the violence.
“We have to work together with each other. Mothers need some help, fathers, whoever needs help to give the most constructive help to the people who need it the most,” said Dwayne.
The Hunters are getting some Heisman help to make the trip happen. Two-time Heisman Trophy winner, Archie Griffin, donated the 50 tickets which are valued at more than $3,000.
Whether they will meet Griffin is still up in the air, but even if they don't meet the legend, the Hunters hope they keep the lesson with them forever.
“Keep on pushing them, keep on telling them, there is a better way. Along the way, we may lose one, we may lose two but along the way, we're going to gain more than we lose and I guarantee you that,” said Dorron.
