Recently acquired centerback Matt Miazga got a sample size taste of Major League Soccer Saturday night when he took the field as part of the starting 11 for FC Cincinnati versus Atlanta United FC.
"I thought Matt was strong, did a really solid job," FCC head coach Pat Noonan said postgame. "There were moments where Alvaro (Barreal) was defending wider and the ball got into the box, but I thought (Miazga) was defending the box very well in terms of closing and blocking crosses and cut back balls. He read those plays really well to not allow balls to get into the box in front of the goal."
Noonan thinks he could've played longer and of course Miazga agrees after having been taken out at the 65-minute mark with one shot notched on the opponent's goal. But, it was for the best. With the adjustments back to MLS from both the Premier League and the national playing field, it's going to take time for him to reach that same potential Chelsea FC and the USMNT alike were so familiar with.
"My debut was fantastic, in terms of playing in front of the fans in TQL Stadium," Miazga said postgame. "The support I got was wonderful and I'm really pleased to be here."
