CPD searching for inmate after walking away UC Medical Center

Cincinnati police are searching for an inmate after he escaped custody while he was being evaluated at UC Medical Center on Wednesday. According to Sergeant Anthony Mitchell, John Wright, 47, was going to be taken to the Justice Center. Mitchell says Wright was not an inmate from prison. Wright is described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds. District two assigned chargers for Wright for breaking into cars and additional charges will be filed against him. Mitchell says he doesn't know how many times inmates have escaped CPD custody and that this type of thing with inmates escaping custody doesn't happen often. According to officials, the detailed officer was notified that he was there and he walked away. The CPD said that four inmates who were under their jurisdiction have escaped in the past two months. On July 4, Sheriff McGuffery held a press conference to outline those four cases. CPD says Wright was not in their custody. UC Health Director of Corporate Media Relations Amanda Nagelesien said "due to HIPAA patient privacy laws, I can't comment on any specific incident. In general, however, UC Health does not take custody of inmates or patients under arrest. We provide medical care, and custody is the responsibility of the agency that brings a patient to us for medical care."This is a developing story.
