Zach Logue made the first start of his Major League Baseball career on Friday night for the Oakland Athletics, and the former Moeller High School standout pitched five innings, striking out five while allowing just two runs on a pair of solo home runs against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.
Logue gave up five hits - including the homers to Jose Miranda (in the 2nd inning) and Byron Buxton (in the 5th) - and walked two in Oakland's 2-1 loss. He threw 90 pitches, including 56 strikes.
Logue, one of 17 players from Greater Cincinnati high schools or colleges on MLB rosters, was promoted earlier in the day to start in place of Cole Irvin, who was placed on the 15-day IL with shoulder tightness.
Logue, a ninth-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2017 MLB draft, was traded by the Blue Jays with Gunnar Hoglund, Kevin Smith and Kirby Snead to the A's for Matt Chapman.
In April, Logue earned a win in relief in his first big-league appearance, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
