7 critical after carbon monoxide poisoning

MARYSVILLE, Ohio — Nine people were transported from a Hampton Inn in Marysville, Ohio, to area hospitals Saturday night in what an official called a carbon monoxide poisoning.

Marysville Fire Chief Jay Riley said the source of the carbon monoxide was unclear as of late Saturday.

Seven of the people taken to the hospital were considered in critical condition, Marysville Police Chief Tony Brooks said. Two others were treated at the scene, and five more sought treatment on their own at a Marysville hospital.

The hotel was evacuated Saturday night.

Brooks said the first 911 call came at about 5:30 p.m. A 2-year-old girl had either fallen into the pool or was found in the pool unconscious at the hotel, he said. More calls to authorities about unconscious people followed, with others reporting symptoms such as dizziness and a burning in the throat, Brooks said.

The Marysville Fire Department and Marysville police called for help from multiple departments.

Brooks said those taken to the hospital from the hotel were alive when transported. He did not confirm the ages of anyone involved in the incident.
