Death of 16-year-old girl investigated as homicide


A 16-year-old girl is dead and a 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a Christmas Day shooting in downtown Cincinnati. It happened on Dec. 25 around 11:15 a.m. when officers responded to the 400 block of West Ninth Street for a report of a person shot.Officers at the scene found a girl suffering from gunshot wounds. The girl, identified as Desire Coston, 16, was taken to UC Medical Center where she died from her injuries on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Cincinnati police arrested a 17-year-old boy for murder for the death of Coston. The investigation by the Cincinnati Police Homicide Unit is ongoing.Coston was reported as a runaway juvenile by the Cincinnati Police Department on Dec. 3.According to investigators, Coston ran away from a foster home and refused to return. She was last seen on Nov. 27 around 6:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Kinney Avenue.According to police, she has texted her foster mother from an unknown phone, saying she will not return and wanted to stay with her aunt.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 513-352-3042.
