After the Cincinnati Bengals' 41-21 Week 16 win Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens at Paul Brown Stadium, Joe Burrow said he didn't think a "gold jacket" remark made last week about the Bengals' quarterback by Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was needed.
"I didn't think it was a necessary comment," Burrow told reporters. "I wouldn't say I was offended by it. I mean I'm in year two. Who knows what's gonna happen down the road? But I didn't think it was a necessary comment."
When asked whether Burrow was thinking about Martindale's comment as he connected with Joe Mixon for a 52-yard reception late in the fourth quarter, Burrow smiled and said "maybe."
Burrow set a new Bengals' franchise record with 525 passing yards in the Week 16 game - fourth-most in a game in NFL history.

From @FOX19Joe:
Martindale was asked last Thursday whether the Ravens would double- or triple-team rookie receiver Ja'Marr Chase against Cincinnati, and whether the Ravens' strategy would be different against the Bengals than it was during a 31-30 loss days earlier to the Green Bay Packers.
"Like I said last week, Davante Adams, he's one of the top two receivers in the league, and he's not No. 2. And Aaron Rodgers is a Hall of Fame quarterback. And I don't think we're ready to buy a gold jacket for Joe (Burrow) yet," Martindale said.
Asked after Sunday's game about the Bengals' decision to throw with a 20-point lead in the final two minutes of the game, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh - who drew criticism earlier this season by running a play late in the fourth quarter to extend a team-record 100-yard rushing streak - gave a brief answer:
"They call their plays. We call our plays," Harbaugh told reporters.
In Oct. 2020, Martindale was unhappy about a field goal the Bengals kicked in the final minute of a 27-3 loss in Baltimore to avoid a shutout.
