WATCH: Video of escalator malfunction that injured multiple people in Massachusetts
lot of commuters told us that they figured this was a scary situation. But until they actually saw that video, they had no idea how many people were involved and how helpless they were in that moment. The video is hard to watch dozens of people tumbling backwards as the escalator they're standing on suddenly stops going up and reverses itself accelerating backwards at a rapid rate of speed. People can't catch themselves and begin piling up at the bottom. Oh my God. Oh wow! I'd be terrified, stunned commuters told us the back bay escalator in question is still blocked off. Sarah Quinn was near the top of the escalator that day at malfunctions, there was just a pile of people and everyone was cut up. Everyone was bloody just kept grinding at each person that was at the bottom. O'Quinn says many of those hurt were Pats and Saints fans returning from Gillette at least nine people were injured that day. In a statement, an attorney for two Louisiana families who are hurt told us his clients continued to recover and still face a long road following this incident there now suing the escalator maintenance contractor cone. I mean that is horrible and has been closed for months so it's sort of like I do wish they had more better maintenance pony told us that safety is a top priority and that MBI Ta escalators are routinely inspected the back bay unit that malfunctioned in september had in fact passed state inspection on july 30th and the M. B. Ta tells us that can service that back bay escalator in early september on the seventh. They declined to comment, though, on the incident in general, saying it is still under investigation.
