West Virginia Mountaineers assistant coach Erik Martin, a former Cincinnati Bearcats standout who played for Bob Huggins and now coaches alongside him, asked for prayers Wednesday night for former teammate Herb Jones, who joined the UC Athletics Hall of Fame earlier this year.
"I am requesting all of my Twitter family to say a prayer for Herb Jones," Martin tweeted. "I choose not to disclose the reason, but ask for continued petitions to God."
Jones, 51, scored 1,097 points with 475 rebounds between 1990 and 1992 to become the only player in school history to score at least 1,000 points in just two seasons.
Jones led the Bearcats' 1992 Final Four team with 18.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Martin sat out as a transfer during Jones' first season at UC, and played with Jones during the 1991-92 season. He's served on head coach Bob Huggins' WVU coaching staff since 2007.
