Elle Smith crowned; See how Ohio’s Nicole Wess fared

UC pharmacy student Nicole Wess is competing for Ohio in the Miss USA pageant beginning Monday.

After a night of pageantry, Miss USA 2021 was selected out of 51 hopefuls and officially given her title Monday.

So, how did Miss Ohio USA and University of Cincinnati student Nicole Wess do? 

Wess, who grew up in West Chester and is a third-year student at UC's James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, did not place in the top 16 of Miss USA.

The pageant was broadcast live Monday on the FYI channel and streamed live on Hulu from the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

But a contestant from a neighboring state did fare well: Elle Smith, a reporter at WHAS-TV in Louisville and Miss Kentucky USA, took home the ultimate crown and was named Miss USA 2021.

The first runner-up was Miss North Dakota USA Caitlyn Vogel, and the second runner-up was Miss Florida USA Ashley Carino.

Smith will go on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant Dec. 12 in Eilat, Israel.
