ESPN profiled former Winton Woods football star Chris Oats and his friendship with Washington Football Team linebacker Jamin Davis on Monday.
The two were teammates, both linebackers, playing for Kentucky when Oats had a stroke in 2020.
Since then, Oats has served as an inspiration to Davis as he's been dealing with the effects of the stroke.
Davis, who replaced Oats as a starter for the Wildcats, ended up becoming the No. 19 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
"The way the situation unfolded is just heartbreaking," Davis told ESPN's John Keim.
Oats' mother, Kemberly Gamble, was also interviewed for the story:
"You don't have to honor my son, just please remember him. That's what Jamin stands for. He doesn't owe my son anything. All he has to do is keep working. This is an opportunity that can be taken away at the drop of a hat."

A GoFundMe set up on behalf of Gamble has surpassed its goal of $150,000 for a state-of-the-art van as Oats continues his recovery.
Coming out of Winton Woods, Oats was a four-star recruit and was the state's Division II Defensive Player of the Year.
