For the first time in school history, the Waynesville Spartans will play in a girls soccer state final. Waynesville beat Winchester Eastern 5-0 in its 10th-consecutive shutout victory. The Spartans took a 1-0 lead mid-way in the first half on a Bailey Williams goal and just before the half, Kyla Harvey doubled the lead to 2-0. Waynesville, which has allowed a single goal in 13 games since Sept. 21, continued to not allow many shots and scoring opportunities. Allie Freese scored with just under 30 minutes remaining and the Spartans netted two more goals for insurance. In the other semifinal, Ottawa-Glandorf beat Doylestown Chippewa 1-0. Ottawa-Glandorf and Waynesville will play in the DIII state championship at 7 p.m. on Friday at Lower.com Field in Columbus.
