Bengals wear down Browns’ defense in first quarter

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) and the Cincinnati Bengals offense take the field for the first possession of the game in the first quarter during a Week 9 NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The Cleveland Browns lead the Cincinnati Bengals 24-10 at halftime.

Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals bounced back from a disaster at the end of their first drive of their game Sunday against the Cleveland Browns at Paul Brown Stadium with a first-quarter scoring drive that culminated with Joe Mixon's 11-yard touchdown run with 4:15 left in the opening quarter to tie it at 7.

Mixon's sixth touchdown run of the season and eighth TD overall came on the Bengals' 20th offensive play - potentially leading to some fatigue from the Browns' defense.

"A great block on the outside by Boyd - the wide receiver - and then Mixon and the offensive line do the rest," CBS color analyst Tony Romo said. "This is interesting ... 20 plays, right? This is 7-7, and yes, (Denzel Ward's) interception was huge. But 20 plays to start a game on your defense? They're gonna be tired earlier in this game than they would be in almost any other game they've played this year. That's a tough one as it gets into that third and fourth quarter."
