Ed Sheeran has COVID-19, will do performances from home

Though we just saw Ed Sheeran rock the house at the VMAs this past Sunday night, apparently he’s not too crazy about American award shows in general as he just confessed that he finds them to be "filled with hatred” — let’s get into it. Ed Sheeran dazzled fans at the 2021 MTV VMAs with an outdoor performance of his latest single ‘Shivers’, featuring New York City’s vibrant skyline as a backdrop… And though Ed was all smiles onstage while singing from his heart, it seems he would’ve much rather been somewhere else... In a recent appearance on Audacy’s The Julia Show, Ed got pretty candid about his experiences behind the scenes at American award shows and he did NOT hold back. (file: Julia Show.png) When asked, "what is something that the average viewer would have no idea of, just watching [the VMAs] on the other side of the TV?”, and well...Ed got really specific real quick...  "The room is filled with resentment and hatred toward everyone else and it's quite an uncomfortable atmosphere." Well then!  Ed went on to compare American award shows to the ones in his native England where, according to him, "everyone gets drunk and no one really cares who wins or who loses, it’s just a good night out." However, Ed was sure to point out that the problem isn’t the artists themselves as they’re all quote, "sweet people”, but rather their entourages orbiting around them. "Everyone kind of, like, is giving each other the side-eye going, ‘well, I wanna win. No, I wanna win.' And it’s a really horrible atmosphere to be in there." Ed added that he always walks away from events like the VMAs "feeling really sad."  He was later asked if the afterparties were any better, but much to Ed’s dismay, he explained that it's just more of the same. He said, “The afterparties, again, are filled with — it’s not just musicians. It’s musicians and all their entourages and influencers and blah blah blah."   Ed feels so strongly about this matter that he admitted that even when he hosted the EMAs back in 2015, he turned down going to an afterparty.  But rather than go home and sulk, Ed shared that he had reserved the top floor at a hotel near the venue and that he invited artists to come party with him, but to only bring one friend with them. He added, “Bebe [Rexha] came with one person, Duran Duran came just as a band, Macklemore came with one person — and it was just a good atmosphere. Everyone was having fun, everyone was drinking beer, playing pool and it wasn’t like ‘who’s bigger than who’, and ‘who won the award that night’.” Umm sounds like the hottest party in town!  And Ed ended up doing the same this year — he revealed that he rented out a dive bar in Brooklyn and that Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Jack Harlow and other artists showed up to party the night away.   It’s worth noting that Ed’s remarks come after he had reportedly said on the red carpet, quote, “In the past few VMAs, it’s all been quite… sorta safe. I think it’s quite nice when something out of the ordinary happens.” Which left fans scratching their heads, and commenting things online like, “Didn’t he also want the VMAs to have more drama? I’m lost.” Well, one thing’s for sure, it’s clear that Ed’s always looking to have an exciting time when rubbing elbows with his peers… Now go ahead and click right to find out what wild thing Selena Gomez was up to while the VMAs were taking place: Also let us know your thoughts on everything Ed had to say about American award shows…
