FC Cincinnati player base salaries, compensation

The expected second release of salary figures by the Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA) this year has given FC Cincinnati a few additional numbers to chew on.

MLSPA's release of league-wide salary date confirmed much of what we already knew about FC Cincinnati's roster – that the club rosters five seven-figure earners and that FCC's discretionary spending ahead of the 2021 season was among the highest in MLS.

The release also confirmed the salaries of several players that arrived midseason, including Geoff Cameron, Kyle Scott, Tyler Blacket, Chris Duvall, Quimi Ordonez and Florian Valot.

Cameron, a key in-season acquisition, earns a base salary of $336,000.

Scott, a ballyhooed signing from England who made his first appearance for Cincinnati last weekend, earns a base salary of $81,375.

If only for MLSPA purposes, Wednesday's release indicated FC Cincinnati shed from its books the salaries of Saad-Abdul Salaam, Cody Cropper, Franko Kovacevic, Tom Pettersson, and most notably, seven-figure earner Jurgen Locadia ($2,812,500).

Atlanta United forward Jackson Conway (36) and FC Cincinnati defender Geoff Cameron (12) go up to head the ball in the first half of the MLS soccer match between FC Cincinnati and Atlanta United on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at TQL Stadium in West End.

All those players were being paid by FC Cincinnati, according to the data released by MLSPA in the spring.

As always, consuming the MLSPA salary data comes with caveats. It's a useful guide in measuring spending from team to team but sometimes lacks context. It's raw data, and there's no accounting for how all the numbers work relative to the salary cap.
