Indiana Hoosiers cancel basketball scrimmage with UC Bearcats

The University of Cincinnati Bearcats were scheduled to face the Indiana University Hoosiers this weekend in a secret scrimmage before the start of the men's college basketball season.

But the Hoosiers canceled the scrimmage with UC - per multiple reports - because of injury concerns.

Stadium's Jeff Goodman reported Friday night via Twitter that the Bearcats will instead scrimmage Detroit Mercy.

Detroit Mercy's head coach, Mike Davis, was an IU assistant from 1997 to 2000 and the Hoosiers' head coach from 2000 to 2006.

Indiana University men's head basketball coach Mike Woodson answers questions during the program's media day at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Monday September 27, 2021.

Woodson and UC head coach Wes Miller are both in their first years at their respective schools. Woodson is scheduled to make his regular-season debut for IU against Eastern Michigan Nov. 9 at Assembly Hall. Miller is scheduled to make his regular-season UC debut the same night, against Evansville at Fifth Third Arena.

The Northern Kentucky Norse confirmed with their schedule announcement last month that they will visit IU during the regular season in a Dec. 22 non-conference game.

The Bearcats' football team rallied for a 38-24 win against the Hoosiers in Bloomington last month.
