New Superman comes out as bisexual

DC's latest comic "Superman: Son of Kal-El" will see the current Superman, Lois and Clark Kent's son Jon Kent, come out as bisexual.The fifth volume of the comic book will hit shelves on Nov. 9, revealing a new relationship between Jon Kent and Jay Nakamura, a reporter who idolises the original Superman and Jon's father Clark. Writer Tom Taylor explained that this isn't the first time he's tried to introduce an LGBTQ+ character into the DC multiverse. "Over the years in this industry, it probably won't surprise you to hear I've had queer characters and storylines rejected," Taylor told IGN. "I felt like I was letting down people I loved every time this happened." "When I was asked if I wanted to write a new Superman with a new No. 1 for the DC Universe, I knew replacing Clark with another straight white savior could be a real opportunity missed," he said. "I've always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes. Today, Superman, the strongest superhero on the planet, is coming out."In a DC press release, Taylor continued: "Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics." Taylor and artist John Timms teased that the new storyline will see Superman become mentally and physically burned out from trying to save everyone. It's Jay who steps in to care for the Kryptonian hero.DC Comics has introduced a few LGBTQ+ characters in recent years, including Robin coming out as bisexual in "Batman: Urban Legends" and Wonder Woman being confirmed as bisexual in 2016.
