Suspect in Brown County murder dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound

A man wanted in connection with Friday's fatal shooting in Brown County died following a confrontation with deputies in Clinton County, state officials said on Sunday.

A preliminary autopsy report by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office indicates that Jason Metcalfe, 41, died from injuries sustained from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Steve Irwin, press secretary for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, said in a statement.

Officials said Metcalfe shot and killed Timothy Vogel, 32, following an altercation.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find Vogel suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, officials said. Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but Vogel died before they could transport him to a hospital for treatment.

Metcalfe fled the scene in a stolen 2016 white Chevrolet, according to the Sheriff's office.
