Westwood’s outdoor drinking area hosting grand opening Thursday


Westwood is holding its Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area — known as DORA — grand opening Thursday night. A soft opening was held in March.Officials said Thursday the grand opening had to be postponed due to weather. A new date has not yet been announced. The district is centered along Westwood's portion of Harrison Avenue.To see a full DORA map, click here."We wanted to define everything about this the way," Westwood Civic Association volunteer Larry Einer said of how the map was drawn. "We defined the boundaries to not including any residential sidewalks or sidewalks that touch the church or school in the boundaries. It's all about how do we respect and put this in place in a way that is uniquely Westwood and doesn't infringe on the residential areas."Businesses such as Wondercade, West Side Brewery and Ivory House are all participating in the outdoor initiatives.Customers are able to purchase a specific DORA cup to put their drink in that they purchased from a participating business.From there, people are able to drink outside of the bar or restaurant's property but must stay within the district limits. Those who would like a refill or a new drink must purchase a new cup.Westwood's DORA is in operation from 5 p.m. t0 11 p.m. Monday to Friday and from noon to 11 p.m. on weekends. Westwood Civic Association leaders said this is to accommodate school and afternoon recreation hours. To-go drinks gained popularity during the height of the pandemic to help local businesses continue to operate. Blue Ash is also considering creating its own DORA district to give businesses a boost and attract more visitors to the area.
