Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said during a recent appearance with Nelk on the Full Send Podcast that he and his LSU Tigers teammates didn't endear themselves to the authorities by lighting up cigars after winning the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship against Clemson at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans in Jan. 2020.
"We were gonna smoke all the cigars in the locker room. And we started smoking them and the cops come in because I guess you're not allowed to smoke inside or whatever," Burrow told the podcast. "And they start trying to arrest people in the locker room. Yeah. After we won the national title. We're like, 'What's going -? C'mon.' This was in Louisiana. We played in New Orleans for the national title. They were trying to (arrest us). And then I think they finally realized like what are we doing?"
The Bengals are scheduled to face the Saints at the Superdome on Oct. 16, the first time Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase will play at the venue since winning the title game there.
In 2021, Burrow joined Joel Klatt and Reggie Bush on FOX Sports' National Championship Watch Party and told the story behind the cigar he smoked as he celebrated the win.
During the podcast, Burrow discussed everything from his expectations ahead of last season's memorable AFC Championship run to the Baltimore Ravens' trash talk, and Super Bowl halftime to getting on stage with teammates during Kid Cudi's concert at a Super Bowl 56 after-party.
He also talked about improvements the Bengals have made this offseason to their offensive line, and called sacks an "overblown stat."
