One dead, one injured, following crash in Florence Sunday morning

THE WAY ON. BREAKING NEWS THIS MORNING. WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT AN OVERNIGHT CRASH THAT INJURED PERSON AND CAUSED A MAJOR TRAFFIC BACK UP. AND A COMMUNITY PUTS SUPPORT BEHIND A FATHER AND A VETERAN LIVING WITH AN INOPERABLE BRAIN TUMOR. HOW THEY’RE HELPING HIM MAKE ENDS MEET. WE’RE TRADING YESTERDAY’S RAIN AND STORMS FOR SUNSHINE. A WILDFIRE SMOKE AND SOME FOG THIS MORNING. I HAVE THE LATEST ON A NEW AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR THE AREA. PLUS, A LOOK AT OUR MONDAY STORM. THIS IS WLWT NEWS FIVE TODAY LEADING WAY. 7:00 ON YOUR SUNDAY. GOOD MORNING ON LACEY ROBERTS METEOROLOGIST KATIE DONOVAN. THOSE STORMS YESTERDAY HAVE MOVED OUT. TODAY WE’RE WITH A DIFFERENT ISSUE. YEAH, AIR QUALITY. SO WE’VE GOT SOME FAIRLY HEAVY CANADIAN WILDFIRE SMOKE OVERHEAD. I MEAN, THE SKY LOOKS GRAY. NOW WIDESPREAD. IT IS. IT’S NOT GREAT. SO IF YOU’RE SENSITIVE, THAT TYPE OF THING, KEEP THAT IN MIND. CAN’T SEE THE SUN ANYMORE. IT’S BEHIND THE BANNER. IT’S COME UP A LITTLE BIT TOO HIGH. BUT WE HAD A RED SUNRISE THIS MORNING, SO IT’S SHINING THROUGH ALL THAT SMOKE. THE RED LIGHT GETS FILTERED THROUGH. THAT’S WHY IT LOOKS LIKE THAT AND WE’LL CONTINUE TO SEE THE SKY ALL DAY TODAY. IT’S NOT GREAT. SOME OF THIS IS FOG AS YOU LOOK BACK TOWARDS LUNKEN AIRPORT HERE. BUT ALL OF THIS, THAT’S HAZE THAT’S THE SMOKE THAT’S COME IN. SO IT’S REALLY A GREAT SITUATION OUTSIDE TODAY. VISIBILITY FROM CINCINNATI, LUNKEN AIRPORT UP THROUGH ABOUT WILMINGTON, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEEING PATCHY, DENSE FOG. WE HAVE AREAS OF NO VISIBILITY. SO AROUND A QUARTER OR LESS FOR SOME LOCATIONS THIS MORNING BECAUSE OF THAT, A DENSE FOG ADVISORY IS OUT THROUGH 9:00. THAT INCLUDES BROWN COUNTY, CLINTON COUNTY AND HIGHLAND COUNTY MORNING, WARREN COUNTY AND CLERMONT COUNTY. YOU HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED FROM THIS. IT WAS CANCELED EARLY FOR YOUR AREA. SO THINGS STARTING IMPROVE A LITTLE BIT QUICKLY IN THOSE LOCATIONS. BUT AGAIN, AIR QUALITY A BIG PROBLEM FOLLOWING THE FOG. WE’RE GOING TO BE SEEING THAT THROUGH THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON AND THROUGH TOMORROW NIGHT. SO IT’S INCLUDES GREATER CINCINNATI NORTHERN KENTUCKY AND OUR SOUTHEAST INDIANA COMMUNITIES. IF YOU ARE TO AIR QUALITY, IF YOU HAVE BREATHING, NOT THE TIME TO BE OUTSIDE PROBABLY NOT THE BEST NIGHT TO HEAD TO THE REDS GAME. IF THAT’S THE CASE. WE HAVE FIRST PITCH AT 140 HAZY SUNSHINE THAT POINT. WIDESPREAD SMOKE IN THE FORECAST THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND THEN THROUGH THE LAST OUT. LESS HUMID IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE OUT OF THAT GAME. HUMIDITY WILL BE DROPPING ALL AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING. SO WEST WINDS PULLING IN THE SMOKE BUT ALSO PULLING IN MORE COMFORTABLE AIR FOR US. WE’LL TALK ABOUT THOSE CHANGES THEN THE SHOWERS AND STORMS THAT FOLLOW INTO THE NEW WEEK COMING UP. KATY, THANK YOU SO MUCH. WE ARE LEADING THE WAY WITH BREAKING. AT LEAST ONE PERSON IS INJURED. THE HIGHWAY WAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, CAUSING A MAJOR BACKUP WITH TWO LANES REOPENING JUST AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR. BUT RIGHT NOW, ALL OF THOSE LANES ARE BACK OPEN. A YOUNG GIRL WILL BE LAID TO REST ONE WEEK AFTER A DRIVE BY SHOOTING TOOK HER. DEMY ABAD PICKENS DIED THIS PAST MONDAY AFTER TWO MEN FIRED DOZENS OF SHOTS INTO GRANDMOTHER’S HOME IN SILVERTON. THOSE KNEW MAYA DESCRIBE HER LEADERSHIP IN HER ENERGY AND HER ENTHUSIASM. FRIENDS SAY SHE WAS ALWAYS SMILING. SHE WAS CHEERING FOR THE WEST SIDE PANTHERS OR HEADING OFF TO SCHOOL IN ALLIANCE ACADEMY. SHE WAS VERY LOUD, ENERGETIC AND JUST HAPPY. SHE GOT HERE. SHE LIKE SHE GOT THE ENERGY TEACHER READY TO GO. SO HAPPY LIKE SHE WAS ALWAYS HAPPY. THAT’S ALL I REMEMBER IS HAPPY AND JOYFUL.
